Little Things You Probably Don’t Know About Your Bed and Bath

27 Jan

When it comes to the things in your bedroom and bath, there is a lot you probably don’t know. Or better said, there is a lot that you think you know but that ends up being completely opposite of what you think. Here are some examples so that you can start to ask the right questions when you go to buy sheets, towels, pillows, comforters, you name it.

First, thread count is the a devious measure of quality. Most people think that no matter the fabric, thread count is the end all be all, but it’s not. The fabric itself is what you should be paying attention too. Not all cotton is the same, you should really go for Egyptian, it is the best cotton. But even thought that cotton is great, pure silk sheets are much better. Bamboo is even better as it’s more absorbent and softer than egyptian cotton. So pay attention to the fabric rather than the thread count.

Second, did you know that when it comes to towels, that big fluffy and great feeling ones are not nearly as good? It’s true they just push moisture around and don’t really help. Consider bamboo towels which are much easier to find then silk towels and a lot more affordable as well. There are new types of cotton towels which are not fluffy at all but they dry really well and they can even dry themselves a lot faster.

Finally, your pillow and your comforter. Two parts of the bed that get the dirtiest the faster and cleaned the least. Depending on what you have on the inside, like down, you can be in real trouble. Learn more about fillings and duvet covers because a good comforter and pillow can make or break your sleep very quickly. That is all you really need to know about.
